President's Report

This President’s report is dedicated to Deputy Chief

Michael J. Fahy who made the supreme sacrifice while

directing operations at Bronx box 2-2 3732. Chief Fahy

had followed in the footsteps of his father Battalion Chief

Thomas J. Fahy who retired out of Battalion 17. His dad

had a distinguished thirty-three year career, serving as a

lieutenant in E-42, captain in E-15 and finishing up in

Battalion 17. Chief Michael Fahy was commanding

operations when a catastrophic gas explosion occurred.

Michael was a brilliant chief officer who was respected

and admired by firefighters and officers alike. He was a

shining example of a chief officer. Leading from the front

it was Mike who was himself in harms way when those

tragic events unfolded on the morning of Tuesday,

September 27th.

In the 151 years of the FDNY, sixty-six chief officers

have lost their lives in the line of duty. Twenty-two chiefs

lost their lives on 9/11. At the 23rd street collapse the

FDNY lost at least one member of every rank, including

a battalion chief and a deputy chief. Chiefs face the same

dangers the members of this department confront every

day. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Mike

in their time of sorrow and loss. Our thoughts and prayers

are with them. Our thoughts are also with the members

of the 19th Battalion and the members who operated at

the box. This is a time of great loss and deep emotion for

them also. The Fire Chiefs Association was honored to

have Michael as our new Bronx Trustee. His loss brings

sorrow and a void to our association. He will always be in

our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Michael.
